The worktop, uprights and upper shelves are coordinated so containers remain within reach without blocking equipment, lighting or sight lines. Two-Tier Over-Shelf as the Controlled Base Model
The controlled base model uses a two-level over-shelf. Three- or four-tier versions remain available as drawing-led variants with separately approved overall height, reach and load.

Plan Reach, Clearance and Stability
Vertical Clearances
Provide the height of every item stored on and between the upper tiers. Leave practical hand clearance for loading and cleaning.
Worktop Equipment
If equipment sits below the over-shelf, provide its full height, lid or door movement, ventilation clearance and service access.
Reach and Sight Lines
Shelf depth and mounting height should support safe reach without blocking the operator's view of the preparation surface.
KD Connections
Upper posts, shelves and the base table must form one stable system after assembly. Fasteners and installation steps should be confirmed in the approved drawing.
Design the Vertical Work Envelope
An over-shelf adds storage without increasing the floor footprint, but it uses the operator's sight and reach zone. The drawing should show finished worktop height, the underside of the first shelf, the gap between shelves and the overall height. Provide the tallest appliance, container or task that must fit on the worktop. Equal shelf spacing is not automatically correct when the lower shelf holds tall containers and the upper shelf holds smaller items.
Shelf depth affects both capacity and visibility. A deep lower shelf can obstruct light or the view of work performed near the rear of the table. An upper shelf placed beyond a comfortable reach may become reserve storage rather than daily-use storage. Buyers should identify which items are accessed frequently and from which side, then approve shelf depth, front edge and any retaining lip or rail required by the application.
Connect the Over-Shelf Without Weakening the Worktop
Uprights create concentrated connection points. Their location must be coordinated with worktop reinforcement, backsplash geometry and any equipment or openings in the top. For an island station, access and upright position may differ from a wall-side station. The buyer should not add an over-shelf to a plain table specification without reviewing these structural and ergonomic effects.
A KD design can separate the base, top, uprights and shelves for export, but the assembly sequence must control vertical alignment and sway. Material, Finish and Packing at Multiple Levels
State material grade and actual thickness separately for the worktop, over-shelves, undershelf if present, tubes and connection parts. Shelf edges, welds or fasteners must suit the visible finish and cleaning process. Packing should prevent long uprights from bending and keep shelf faces separated from hardware. Final packed dimensions can only be confirmed after the over-shelf geometry and KD division are approved.
Compare Over-Shelf Stations by Clearances and Connections
Overall width and shelf count do not show whether the station is usable. Compare clear worktop height, the vertical opening between each level, shelf depth, upright position and connection method. Ask suppliers to identify which parts are removable for export and how the uprights are located during assembly. If shelf loads are defined, provide their position and distribution and compare the documented load requirement for the selected configuration.
For a distributor range, keep separate drawings for flat-top, rear-backsplash and island versions. Moving uprights or changing a backsplash can alter worktop support and packing, so these should not be treated as cosmetic options under one uncontrolled specification.
Final inspection should verify shelf spacing, upright verticality, fastener completeness and worktop level after trial assembly. These measurable checks are more useful than a generic premium-quality statement and can be repeated across purchase orders.

Reach, Sight-Line and Upright Inspection
An over-shelf station is accepted from the operator's usable vertical envelope, not its total shelf count.
- Measure worktop-to-first-shelf clearance and the clear gap between upper shelves.
- Check that shelf depth does not block task visibility, lighting or equipment access.
- Verify upright connections against top reinforcement and backsplash geometry.
- Assemble the full KD station and inspect vertical alignment and lateral movement.
Packing Uprights and Multiple Shelf Panels
Long uprights should be supported against bending, and shelf faces must be isolated from fasteners. Part labels should distinguish shelf level and orientation. Packed dimensions are recorded on the approved packing drawing so the buyer can calculate container utilization for the ordered configuration.
Over-Shelf Planning Questions
Can the shelf spacing be customized?
Yes. Tier spacing should be defined from the actual containers, tools and worktop equipment.
Is the entire station knock-down?
This product is planned as a full KD design, but all connections and packing details must follow the approved drawing.
Can the lower structure be changed?
Yes. Open legs, an undershelf or another feasible lower arrangement can be reviewed for the project.
For repeat orders, record the approved upright positions and both shelf clearances as controlled dimensions so later batches preserve the same working envelope.
Over-Shelf Load and KD Connection Checks
Worktop reinforcement, upright positions, shelf spans, clear openings and KD joints are selected from the approved layout and stated shelf loads.
